Ryan Hopkins Named Interim Athletic Director at Boys’ Latin School
Hopkins is a long-time administrator, teacher and coach with the Lakers
Boys’ Latin School of Maryland has appointed Ryan Hopkins as interim athletic director for the 2025–2026 academic year, bringing a familiar and highly respected leader to guide the school’s athletic programs. He succeeds Michael Thomas who had served as BL athletic director since 2004.
Hopkins, a veteran educator and coach within the Boys’ Latin community, currently serves as assistant head of the middle school. He also led the middle school athletic program for many years and has been deeply involved with the school’s athletics at every level, coaching multiple sports across the middle and upper school divisions. His contributions include serving as assistant coach for the varsity golf team, which has dominated the MIAA B Conference with six championships over the past nine years—including the last three.
"Known for his thoughtful leadership and deep understanding of adolescent development, Hopkins is widely regarded as a trusted mentor who exemplifies Boys’ Latin’s mission to build character, confidence, and integrity in its students," states his profile on the BL athletics page. "His appointment ensures continuity and stability within a program that plays a vital role in shaping young men both on and off the field.
“Ryan understands the powerful role athletics play in the growth of our boys. He embodies the school’s mission and values and has a deep understanding of the boys, the community, and the culture.”
Hopkins holds a B.A. from Lynchburg College and an M.A. from Loyola University Maryland. He also teaches middle school history and was honored with a "Best Elementary-Middle School Teacher" award in Baltimore Style’s Readers' Choice Awards.
