MIAA Rugby schedule reaches the midway point
Spalding remains undefeated through three matches
The MIAA, one of the few high school athletic conferences in the nation to sanction rugby as an interscholastic sport, has reached the halfway point of its 2024 season with Archbishop Spalding leading the way with a 3-0 record.
The Cavaliers have defeated all three of their league rivals during the first half of the season, blanking Mount St. Joseph, 31-0, edging Calvert Hall, 26-25, and topping Loyola, 19-10.
Spalding begins the second half of its league schedule on Saturday morning when it hosts St. Joe. The Cavs will close their regular season schedule with visits to Calvert Hall (next Friday) and Loyola (May 2nd).
Loyola is 2-1 and in second place. The Dons authored shutouts in their other two league matches, blanking Calvert Hall, 7-0, and St. Joe, 14-0. Friday night, Loyola will host Calvert Hall and travel to St. Joe (next Thursday), in addition to its match with Spalding. The Dons also own a non-conference win over Salesianum (DE).
Calvert Hall also defeated Salesianum and owns non-conference routs of Georgetown Prep and Poly. The Cardinals lone league win came against St. Joe, 23-12, earlier this month. In addition to their upcoming matches with Loyola and Spalding, the Cardinals will close the league season at St. Joe on May 3rd.
