MIAA football championship games set
Spalding will play for a four-peat as McDonogh challenges for a third straight year; St. Paul's and St. Vincent Pallotti will battle in the B
Two familiar rivals will face each other in the MIAA A Conference football championship game on Saturday, Nov. 15 when Archbishop Spalding and McDonogh meet in the title game for a third consecutive year.
Spalding (9-2), which is looking for its fourth consecutive league title, has prevailed over the Eagles in each of the last two finals. The Cavaliers earned their shot at a four-peat with a 35-8 win over fourth-seeded Gilman (4-6) in the semifinal round, Friday night at Spalding.
Second-seeded McDonogh (8-2) earned its return trip to the championship, which will be played at Spalding (7:00 p.m.), after defeating third-seeded St. Mary’s (7-4), 24-14, in Owings Mills on Friday. The contest was a far cry from the Eagles 41-0 romp over the Saints back in September.
In addition to defeating McDonogh in the last two league championship games, Spalding, which went a perfect 7-0 in conference play, rolled to a 35-13 win at McDonogh on Sept. 12.
The B Conference final will be a rematch of one of 2025’s most exciting games as top-seeded St. Paul’s (9-1) takes on second-seeded St. Vincent Pallotti (7-5), on Saturday at Spalding prior to the A Conference championship, at 3 p.m.
Pallotti, which lost to Archbishop Curley in last year’s championship game, returned to the title game with a 44-3 win over third-seeded Boys’ Latin (6-6) on Friday at Meade High School. St. Paul’s, which is seeking its first football championship since 2013, earned its way into the title game with a 27-15 victory over fourth-seeded John Carroll (6-5), on Saturday.
The Crusaders, who went 7-0 in conference play to earn the top seed, edged Pallotti, 27-26, when the two teams met in Brooklandville on Oct. 4.
