Indoor Track Championship Meet appears to be wide open

With the three regular season Indoor Track Group Meets now completed, the 2025-26 MIAA Indoor Track Championship Meet, which will take place on Jan. 23 at Prince George’s Sports & Learning Center, appears wide open.

Gilman narrowly led the regular season, winning the first meet and placing second in the other two to finish with 2 points in the standings, where the lowest number of points tops the chart.

Mount St. Joseph (2nd with 3 points) and Calvert Hall (3rd with 6 points) each won a Group Meet, with the Gaels adding 2nd and 3rd place efforts and the Cardinals twice finishing fourth. Also lurking in this conversation is McDonogh (4th with 7 points), which placed 3rd twice and 4th once in the Group Meets.

It’s important to note that the regular season is not always the best indication of who may win the championship meet. Often, top athletes do just enough in the regular season to qualify for postseason competition and the MIAA has a long history having one team win the regular season Indoor Track title and another winning the championship meet in the same season.

Calvert Hall would appear to have the momentum heading into the championship meet. Not only did the Cardinals win the third Group Meet this year, they have won the last two championship meets and five of the last six.

In its victory on Jan. 9, Calvert Hall outscored Gilman, 134-119, at the top of the team standings, while Mount St. Joseph was third with 104 points.

Of course, the championship meet is not just about crowning a team champion. Athletes throughout the league will be vying for medals in the 12 individual events and three relays.
