Pallotti's Caleb Tenney named Gatorade Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year
In the fall, Tenney's was the first non-A Conference runner to win the individual MIAA title
St. Vincent Pallotti runner Caleb Tenney, who made MIAA history in the fall by becoming the first non-A Conference runner to win the individual title at the MIAA Cross Country Championship Race, picked up another major honor on Thursday when he was named the 2025 Gatorade Maryland Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year.
Tenney, who also claimed three individual titles (800m, 1600m and 3200m) at the recent 2025 MIAA Indoor Track Championships, also set a meet record in winning the Maryland Private School State Cross Country Championships, in the Large School Division, in the fall, with a time of 15.41.3. He finished 7.4 seconds in front of his nearest competitor. On the regional stage, he placed 49th at the Nike Cross Southeast Regional Championshps.
In addition to success in athletic competition, Teney is also being honored for his community service through his church youth group.
"We all saw Caleb when he was a freshman and sophomore and knew had talent," said Loyola Blakefield cross country coach Chris Cucuzzella. "Since then, he has developed even more. One thing that impresses me is his tenacity. He's always the one to push the pace and is never scared to race with an athlete he has lost to before."
The classroom is another area where Tenney has excelled, maintaining a weighted 4.47 GPA. Following the completion of his senior year at Pallotti, Tenney plans to attend Johns Hopkins University where he will continue to compete in cross country and track, beginning in the fall.
Tenney is the first MIAA runner to be named Gatorade Maryland Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year since Calvert Hall's Owen Johnson received the honor in 2019-20.
