Boys' Latin's Harrison Roberts and AACS' Colin Powell win B and C golf titles
Roberts edges his Laker teammate for MIAA B crown and Powell clears the C Conference field by two strokes

There’s been no sophomore jinx for Harrison Roberts this spring. After an impressive 2024 campaign, the Boys’ Latin School golfer captured the MIAA B Conference individual title Friday afternoon at Diamond Ridge.
Roberts finished with a 1-under par 72, four shots clear of teammate Lucas Erdman, John Carroll School’s Nate Giordano and Harrison Tindall from Severn.
After double-bogeys at the 15th and 17th hole, Roberts birdied the 18th to complete his run. He was fourth among B finishers at last year’s MIAA individual championship event at the United States Naval Academy Golf Course.
“I didn't play as well at Navy, so I'm glad this year I can come out and show my potential and live up to the expectations I set for myself,” said Roberts. “I started playing better on the back (nine),” said Roberts. “I finished off with a birdie and I’m just pretty happy with my performance.”
Roberts was the B Conference’s Athlete of the Year for golf last spring, helping the Lakers to a second straight championship. Friday, he was 1-under through the front nine with birdies on one and nine. He hit 2-under after a birdie on 14th before running into trouble.
Boys’ Latin coach Ryan Hopkins was pleased to see Roberts stayed composed.
“When he was a younger player, he had a tendency to let one bad shot kind of derail a round for him, but he’s gotten so much better at that,” said Hopkins. “He’s able to focus on the mental side of golf, knowing physically he can hit every shot.”
Colin Powell from Annapolis Area Christian School was the top finisher in the C. The sophomore (83) finished two shots ahead of his closest competitors.
Powell said his confidence soared when eagled No. 9.
“This whole season, I’ve been struggling a lot especially with my second shot, so I’m glad that it finally cleared up,” said Powell. “One of my biggest insecurities about golf is that it didn’t seem that I was improving at all.”
