2025 MIAA Spring Coaches of the Year
Recognizing leadership, sportsmanship and achievement
The Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) has announced its 2025 Spring Coaches of the Year, recognizing their dedication and leadership within their schools and teams.
From guiding championship victories to fostering growth in up-and-coming teams, this year’s honorees have raised the bar for athletic excellence in basketball, ice hockey, indoor track, squash, swimming and wrestling. Join us as we spotlight the accomplishments and influence of these outstanding coaches.

Baseball Coach of the Year
Darrion Siler - John Carroll School
A 2001 graduate of John Carroll, Darrion Siler returned to his alma mater n 2016 has head baseball coach and the Patriots have been a MIAA A Conference contender ever since. Siler’s Patriots finally broke through in 2025, winning the school’s first A Conference championship by sweeping Calvert Hall in the finals, after finishing the regular season as the league’s top seed.
Prior to returning to John Carroll, Siler played baseball professional in Belgium and Portugal and gained extensive coaching experience across Europe. To this day he remains active in international baseball development, through Caliendo Sports International and has traveled to Cuba, Japan, Italy and the Dominican Republic to share is expertise and work with players.

Golf Coach of the Year
Dave Sowers - St. John’s Catholic Prep
A member of the St. John’s Catholic Prep coaching staff since 2019, Dave Sowers led the Vikings to a big turnaround during the 2024-25 MIAA C Conference golf season. SJCP, after going just 4-7 the previous year, but caught fire late this spring and won the league championship for the first time.
As the third seed entering the playoffs, the Vikings opened with a 15-5-5.5 win over Friends, before upending second-seeded Indian Creek, 12-9, and topping fourth-seeded Annapolis Area Christian, 11-10, in the championship match.

Lacrosse Coach of the Year
Todd Wolters - Saints Peter & Paul High School
Todd Wolters has turned the Saints Peter & Paul lacrosse program into a consistent. He has led the Sabres to 28 wins over the last two seasons and back-to-back appearances in the MIAA B Conference championship game.
In 2025, Wolters squad ended Archbishop Curley’s three-year reign as B Conference champions by rallying for an 11-9 win in the title game. It was SSPP’s first championship since it won the 2014 crown to complete a three-year title reign of its own. The Sabres also own two C Conference championships.

Rugby Coach of the Year
Chad Newcomb - Archbishop Spalding High School
Chad Newcomb wins this honor for a second straight year, after leading Spalding to dominating undefeated season and their second consecutive MIAA championship.
In the spring of 2025, Newcomb’s Cavaliers were 6-0 and amassed 27 points, 10 more than second place Calvert Hall. In the championship match, Spalding defeated Calvert Hall, 33-15. Newcomb just completed his 13th season as the coach of the Cavaliers and is credited with not only growing the sport at Spalding, but helping the game of rugby grow on the high school level across the region.

Tennis Coach of the Year
John Perkinson - Saints Peter & Paul High School
John Perkinson guided the Saints Peter & Paul tennis team to an 8-6 overall record in 2025 and the Sabres reached the semifinals of the MIAA C Conference playoffs. That’s big improvement over the 5-7 mark the Sabres posted in 2024.
Perkinson is considered a dedicated and passionate leader who made a difference for his players on and off the court.

Track & Field Coach of the Year
Kyle Reagan - Mount St. Joseph High School
A Mount St. Joseph alum, Kyle Reagan has led the Gaels to the 2025 MIAA A Conference championship. Under his leadership, St. Joe also has won the last two indoor track regular season titles and the 2022-23 indoor championship meet. He also coaches the school’s cross country team.
Reagan is known for developing elite sprinters and being a strong advocate for Mount St. Joseph’s athletic programs. He has also coached at Maryvale Prep and returned to his alma mater in 2017.
