2024 MIAA soccer playoff seeds announced; brackets released
Quarterfinal action gets underway on Tuesday in all three conferences
The 2024 MIAA soccer regular season has come to close and the playoffs in the A, B and C conferences will take place this week, culminating with three championship games on Sunday, Nov. 10 at UMBC Stadium in Catonsville.
In the A Conference, Loyola Blakefield and Archbishop Curley concluded their schedules on Friday by playing to a 2-2 draw that left each of them with identical 12-2-2 league records atop the standings. The defending champion Dons, however, won the first meeting to earn the tie-breaker and the top seed for the post-season. Curley finished with the second seed and both teams will have first round byes and host semifinal playoff games on Thursday.
McDonogh (10-1-5), which tied Curley twice and went 1-0-1 against Loyola, ended up as the third seed and will host sixth-seeded Gilman (4-8-4) in one of Tuesday’s quarterfinal games. The other quarterfinal will see fourth-seeded Calvert Hall (5-5-5) will host fifth-seeded Mount St. Joseph (5-8-2).
The McDonogh-Gilman winner will travel to Curley and the St. Joe-Calvert Hall winner will visit Loyola.
In the B Conference, defending champion St. Paul’s finished the regular season at a perfect 10-0 to win the top seed, while St. Mary’s (7-2-1) claimed the second seed. The Crusaders and Saints will have first round byes.
Third-seeded Severn (7-3) will host sixth-seeded Annapolis Area Christian (5-3-2) in one quarterfinal and fifth-seeded Gerstell (6-4) will visit fourth-seeded Boys’ Latin (5-3-2) in the other. St. Paul’s will play the Gerstell-BL winner and St. Mary’s will host the AACS-Severn winner.
The C Conference top seed is undefeated Mount Carmel (8-0), while Key (6-2) grabbed the second. Again, both will have first round byes.
Tuesday’s quarterfinal schedule will see sixth-seeded Jemicy (3-4-1) at third-seeded Beth Tfiloh (6-2) and fifth-seeded St. John’s Catholic Prep (4-4) at fourth-seeded Gunston (5-3). In Thursday’s semifinals, Mt. Carmel will play the SJCP-Gunston winner and the Jemicy-Beth Tfiloh winner will play at Key.
Championship Sunday at UMBC will begin with the C Conference final at 1 pm, followed the B Conference title game at 3:15 pm and the A Conference championship game at 5:30 pm.
