Calvert Hall three-peats as MIAA Track & Field champion
Cardinals dominate with nine individual titles; St. Mary’s wins the B Conference crown
Calvert Hall won the 2024 MIAA A Conference track & field championship meet, which concluded at Archbishop Spalding on Saturday, in dominant fashion. The Cardinals outscored second place Gilman 207-112 and won nine individual event titles to win the team championship for a third year in a row.
Cameron Davis was the Cardinals’ top performers as he won the 1600 meters (4:12.82), 800 meters (1:52.45) and 3200 meters (9:21.15), in addition to anchoring the team’s winning 4x800 relay. Also on the 4x800 relay were Ryan Warner, Cort Shroder and Caleb Mincey.
Gabe Levrone won the 100 meters (10.55) for Calvert Hall and was on the winning 4x100 relay (42.05), along with Darius Smith, Caiden Newsom and Antoine McNair Jr., who also won the long jump (22-11.50).
Also winning events for Calvert Hall Chase Dorsey in the shot put (57-07.25) and Ethan Ruffin in the high jump (6-08.00).
Archbishop Spalding had the next most individual champions with three. Daniel Miller won the 110 meter hurdles (15.08) for the Cavaliers and Garrett Brennan won the 400 meters (48.53). The Cavs also captured the 4x400 relay (3:18.01), run by Kaden Curtis, Aaron Igwebe, Willem Martino and AJ Perdue.
Gilman’s lone champion was Yasir Supreme in the triple jump (46-00.50), while Mount St. Josep and Loyola had two each.
For the Gaels, Luke Pappas won the 300 meter hurdles (40.78) and Braeden Dushkin won the discus (157-08). The Dons champs were Khary Adams in the 200 meters (21.83) and Will Coyne in the pole vault (13-06.00).
The other event championship went to the McDonogh 4x200 meter relay team (1:28.75) of Andy Nesterovsky, Femi Ayanbadejo, Brandon Finney and Kyle Rollins
In winning the B Conference St. Mary’s won just two individual events, both by Jack Drucis, who took the pole vault (10-00.00) and long jump (20-02.00).
Concordia Prep captured the most individual titles in the B Conference with seven. Darian Hill and Vince Harris led the way with three victories each.
Hill won the 100 meters (10.90) and 200 meters (22.20), in addition to joining Harris, Jaylin Harcum and Travis Holmes-Hale on the victorious 4x400 relay (3:32.33). Harris’ individual wins came in the 110 meter hurdles (16.19) and the high jump (6-08.00).
Harcum also took gold in the 300 meter hurdles (41.93) and Darian Hill won the 200 meters (22.20) for the Saints.
Caleb Tenney won three individual events for St. Vincent Pallotti, taking the 1600 meters (4:15.63), 800 meters (1:59.84) and 3200 meters (9:05.34). The Panthers also got and individual title in the shot put from Robert Mitchell (52-07.75).
Annapolis Area Christian’s Elijah Croskey won the 400 meters (49.91) and anchored the winning 4x100 relay (44.60). He was joined on that team by Elijah Pierre, Isaiah Hale and Justin Hamilton. In addition, the Eagles Daniel Twiggy won the discus (113-11).
Other champions included Indian Creek’s Jayden Green in the triple jump (40-06.00) and John Carroll’s 4x800 relay team (8:46.21) of Mitch Gier, Alex Wohlfort, Evan Devot and Will Root.
