2024-25 MIAA Winter Coaches of the Year
Recognizing leadership, sportsmanship and achievement
The Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) has announced its 2024-25 Winter Coaches of the Year, recognizing their dedication and leadership within their schools and teams.
From guiding championship victories to fostering growth in up-and-coming teams, this year’s honorees have raised the bar for athletic excellence in basketball, ice hockey, indoor track, squash, swimming and wrestling. Join us as we spotlight the accomplishments and influence of these outstanding coaches.
MIAA 2024-25
Basketball Coach of the Year
Mike Glasby - Severn School
Severn School’s head basketball coach Mike Glasby has been named the MIAA Basketball Coach of the Year for a second consecutive year, after leading the Admirals to a 20-5 record and a second straight MIAA B Conference title.
Glasby’s Admirals earned widespread respect for his team’s discipline, toughness, and consistent improvement. Known for his emphasis on player development and high character, Glasby has quickly become one of the most respected coaching voices in Maryland high school basketball. His ability to inspire excellence, both on and off the court, helped foster a culture of accountability and belief within the program.

Ice Hockey Coach of the Year
Sean Baker - St. Paul’s School
Sean Baker, a 2012 graduate of St. Paul’s, led his alma mater to the 2024-25 MIAA B Conference ice hockey crown. The Crusaders entered the postseason as the second seed, but knocked off top-seeded Loyola, 2-1, and finished the year with an overall record of 9-2-1.
Baker has been the head coach at St. Paul’s since 2020 and has won two league titles during his tenure. He has also served as a coach with Baltimore Youth Hockey since 2017.
MIAA 2024-25
Indoor Track Coach of the Year
Scott Baker - Calvert Hall College
Scott Baker now has the trifecta in the MIAA, adding the 2024-25 MIAA Indoor Track Coach of the Year honor to the Coach of the Year honors he won in Cross Country and Indoor Track in 2023.
Baker’s Cardinals won their second consecutive title at the MIAA Indoor Track Championships this winter. It was the fifth time the team won the event in the last six times it was contested. A 2013 Calvert Hall graduate, Baker was a standout distance runner at Mount St. Mary’s.

Squash Coach of the Year
Tyler Ebeling - McDonogh School
McDonogh’s Tyler Ebeling has been selected by his peers as MIAA Squash Coach of the Year for the 2024-25 season. McDonogh, the only program other than Gilman to have won a MIAA squash title, advanced to the MIAA semifinals last winter and the team’s only losses came to Gilman and league runner-up St. Paul’s.
Ebeling has been on staff at McDonogh since 2016, serving five years as director of the school’s annual fund before being promoted, 2021, to Senior Director of Philanthropy for Annual Programs.

Swimming Coach of the Year
Travis Williams - Archbishop Curley
The Archbishop Curley swimming team made great strides in 2024-25, placing second in the MIAA B Conference championship meet, with 279 points, and collecting to individual event titles. In recognition of this success, the league coaches have voted Curley head coach Travis Williams as MIAA Swimming Coach of the Year.
Williams is a 2001 graduate of Stevenson University and serves as the school’s Assistant Athletic Director. He is also a Physical Education and Health teacher, serves as the JV lacrosse head coach and is moderator of Curley’s Environmental Club.

Wrestling Coach of the Year
Mike Laidley - Archbishop Spalding
Mike Laidley, who has guided the Archbishop Spalding wrestling program for 23 seasons, led the Cavaliers to one of their best seasons ever in 2024-25, earning him the honor of MIAA Wrestling Coach of the Year.
For just the second time in program history, and the first time since 2010-11, Spalding won the MIAA Wrestling Tournament in February. Along the way, the Cavaliers captured the prestigious War on the Shore title and then tied Gilman for the team title at the Maryland Independent School State Championships, before making a strong showing at the National Preps Tournament.
