John Carroll claims game one of the A Conference championship series
St. Paul's rolls into the MIAA B finals
Top-seeded John Carroll drew first blood in the MIAA A Conference baseball championship series with a 6-3 win over Calvert Hall, Saturday morning in Bel Air, to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. The Patriots will meet the Cardinals again Sunday evening at Joe Cannon Stadium and can clinch the 2025 title with one more victory. Calvert Hall will extend the series to Monday, if it can prevail.
Calvert Hall scored single runs in each of the first three innings, including solo home runs by Kaden Barmer and Thomas Pilarski, in the first and second innings, respectively. John Carroll, however, roared back behind a 4-for-4 day by leadoff hitter Joey Coudon, who scored three runs and knocked in one. The Patriots took the lead for good with a three-run third which was fueled by a two-run home run by Casey Carpenter and a RBI double by Drew Jourdan.
In the B Conference tournament, St. Paul's routed Boys' Latin, 12-2, in the elimination bracket, played at Calvert Hall and advanced to the finals of the B Conference double-elimination tournament. The Crusaders will face McDonogh on Sunday, at 2:30 p.m., at Joe Cannon and will need to beat the Eagles twice to win the league championship. The second game, if necessary, will be played on Monday.
St. Paul's grabbed a 5-1 lead after two innings and closed out the contest with three runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth. Eli Livingston got the Crusaders rolling with a first inning home run and would go on to go 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and three RBI. He also had a triple. Kobe Arrington also had a big bat for St. Paul's with two hits, a run scored and four RBI.
