Calvert Hall wins MIAA Track championships for a fourth straight year
Cardinals won six individual event titles; AACS wins the B Conference crown
For the fourth consecutive year, and sixth time overall, Calvert Hall has won the MIAA Track & Field Championship meet.
When the 2025 championships, which began last Thursday at Calvert Hall, concluded on Saturday at Archbishop Spalding, the Cardinals had amassed 208.25 points and posted a convincing a 36.25-point victory over regular season winner Mount St. Joseph, which finished second with 172 points.
Only once (2023) during their run of consecutive championship meet crowns have the Cardinals also won the regular season competition. Gilman (103 points) was third in the eight-team field and Archbishop Curley (68) was fourth.
Annapolis Area Christian won the B Conference championship for the first time in school history, topping defending champion St. Mary’s, 124-121. St. Vincent Pallotti was third with 82 points.
In winning the A Conference, Calvert Hall showed depth and championship ability as the Cardinals won six individual events.
Gabe Levrone won the 100 meters (10.95) and ran the anchor leg on Calvert Hall’s victorious 4x100 meter relay team (42.78), which also included Jalen White, Julian Kurlander and Kevaughn Mitchell. Max Miller (49.28) edged teammate Shawyn Hardy (49.31) to win the 400 meters; Onyeka Ikpe won the shot put (55-09.00) and discus (159-03); and CHC also won the 4x400 meter relay (3:22.56) and the 4x800 meter relay (38:03.29).
Miller ran the anchor on the 4x400 team, which included Arden Bell, Julian Kurlander and Cameron Hayes, while Marco Carver, Hayden Malstrom, Zach Brengel and Michael Kirby delivered the victory in the 4x800.
Although many athletes had big days, the most decorated turned out to be Mount St. Joseph’s Jared Okechukwu. Okechukwu won the 110 meter hurdles (15.21), the long jump (22-07.75) and the triple jump (44-06.00), in addition to sharing the high jump crown with teammate Bryan Iwouha. Both Gaels cleared 6-00.00.
Luke Pappas won the 300 meter hurdles (39.71) for St. Joe and the Gaels also captured the 4x200 meter relay (1:27.95), as Brian Stewart, Nico Romeo, Ja'Den Glispy and Xavier Myers teamed on the title victory.
Nearly matching Okechukwu’s individual success was Gilman’s Jemmel Green, who won the 800 meters (1:55.95), the 1600 meters (4:17.9) and the 3200 meters (9:22.28).
Archbishop Curley’s Rashien Gibbs won the 200 meters (22.19) and place second in the 100. The day’s other individual champion was Loyola Blakefield’s Will Coyne, who prevailed in the pole vault (14-00.00).
AACS captured three gold medals in the B Conference, as Julian Kelly won both hurdle events and Aaron Jackson won the triple jump.
St. Mary’s also had three titles each as the Saints won the 4x100 and 4x200 relays and got the pole vault title from Ethan Lowe.
St. Frances celebrated four individual victories, including Jeremiah Williams’s titles in the 100 and 200 meter races. Also winning for the Panthers were Terry Diggs in the 400 meters and Jahshua Lamorth in the high jump.
St. Vincent Pallotti’s Caleb Tenney capped his brilliant high school career, winning the 1600 (4:13.46) and 3200 (9:01.07) meter races with times that would have also won in the A Conference.
Indian Creek prevailed in two relay races, the 4x400 and the 4x800.
The day’s B Confernce other individual champions were Glenelg Country’s Markus Thomas (800 meters), Concordia Prep’s Matthew Smith (shot put and discus) and Park’s John Ramon Fortune (long jump)
