The top two seeds in the MIAA A Conference will play for the varsity golf championship on Saturday when Calvert Hall and Archbishop Spalding meet at Caves Valley Country Club.
The Cardinals (#1 seed, 11-1 regular season) advanced to their third straight final with a 15-6 win over Loyola Blakefield on Wednesday.
Spalding (#2 seed, 7-5 regular season) defeated Mount Saint Joseph on Wednesday, 18.5-2.5.
Calvert Hall swept the season series with the Cavaliers, winning 14-7 (home) and 13.5-7.5 (away), but both matches went down to the last two holes before the Cardinals prevailed.
"Wednesday (vs. Loyola) was some of the best golf we've played all year," says Cardinals head coach Drew Forrester. "These 12-hole MIAA matches are tricky because you can't really have a three or four hole stretch of uneven golf. On Wednesday vs. Loyola, all six of our players had their best stuff from the first hole on."
Archbishop Spalding is making its first appearance in the A Conference final since 2021.
"We're looking forward to the challenge of playing a talented Calvert Hall team," stated Spalding head coach Pete VanZandt. "Our boys are eager and ready to play the match. Coach Forrester always brings a team that's prepared to play their best."
The Cardinals won the MIAA title in 2023 vs. St. Paul's and then dropped last year's final to the Crusaders.
"We're excited to be in our third straight final," states Forrester. "It says a lot about this group of players in our program. We have a lot of respect for Coach VanZandt's team and their players. We know we have to play well on Saturday."
